Birds of Prey does a better job at letting Margot be Harley, that transition between psychiatrist to mad gets cringey but it ultimately works. The same can be said about the now non-canon Suicide Squad and its portrayal of Harley Quinn. I won’t deny it, but the handling has just been awful.

You’ll have fun watching it, but if you’re hoping for some semblance of overarching connectivity, then you will be disappointed.ĭoes the movie and Harley Quinn herself stand on their own?Īmran: One thing the DCEU has going for it is that it’s casting has been pretty good. What is the end goal? Birds of Prey adds itself to the list of recent DC films to be very loosely connected to its cinematic universe. And loose is definitely the right word as Jared Leto’s Joker is barely seen, while he is verbally mentioned, you don’t actually see any interaction of the Clown Prince of Crime. Zsaszīlack Mask will be joined by fellow Batman villain Victor Zsasz. He also wears a distinctive mask carved from his father's own ebony coffin.Ĭlick here to learn more about Black Mask. Better known by the name Black Mask, this villain has built a reputation for sadism and brutality in a city already known for both. Gotham crime lord Roman Sionis looks to be the main villain of Birds of Prey. That devotion to justice hasn't made her life easy, however, hence why she often finds herself seeking the bottom of a bottle. Renee is one of the few honest cops in Gotham City, often partnering with Harvey Bullock. We can't be entirely sure that this screenshot features Renee Montoya, but given the character's propensity for drinking in the comics, it seems a safe bet. In the movie, Cassandra will find herself hunted by Black Mask, likely making her the catalyst for the Birds of Prey's formation. In the comics, Cassandra has served as both Batgirl and Orphan at different points. Thanks to her family background and her own ability to intuitively read her opponents, she may well be the most gifted warrior in the DC Universe. Whether working alone, with her sometime love Green Arrow or as a member of teams like the Birds of Prey and Justice League, Black Canary is a force to be reckoned with.Ĭassandra Cain is the daughter of feared assassin David Cain and legendary martial artist Lady Shiva. After training with some of the world's finest fighters, she's molded herself into a fearsome warrior whose martial arts skills are bolstered by her sonic scream.
